Wine Bottle Painting

I've noticed that I tend to cook more than I tend to craft, and I've also noticed that I really enjoy a glass or two of wine. Red or white, I won't discriminate. After seeing my friend Tina's crafty painted wine bottles decorating her kitchen, a light bulb went off - "I could and should totally do that!" Without further ado, enjoy my wine bottle painting craft.

This idea was also born at my local craft store in Westford, where I went to try and satisfy my urge to paint something, anything. The last time I had this urge, I ended up painting a wall, and having a painting contractor for a live-in boyfriend increased the stress of that. However, he did say I did a good job! This time I wanted to buy a large canvas and just paint anything, but the store didn't have any canvasses. So I bought a bunch of brushes and different colored acrylic paints.

First things first: prepare the surface on which you'll be painting. I did it at my kitchen table because it's probably the easiest to clean up. Also, I would recommend putting down newspaper. That way, you have little to no clean up at all.

Next, grab your wine bottles and scrape all labels off with a spoon by running scalding hot water on them. Try and remove as much of the goop and pieces of paper as possible.

Fill up a cup with water to clean your brushes and get to work! It's up to you which colors you would like to use. I used beachy colors to match the theme of the other trinkets on the fireplace mantle in our bedroom. If you like brighter colors, then paint your bottle fluorescent green if you'd like! The best thing about this craft is that it's open-ended and leaves room for personal creativity. I also left a little bit of translucence to my bottle, giving it a more genuine ocean look. I'm very proud of the outcome!

I added some twine to the tops and middle of some of the painted bottles to give them even more pizzazz! Try out this craft and let me know how it worked for you!
